The City of Marietta launched a new website this week.
The launch took place Wednesday morning, according to Marietta IT Director Scott Steinel. Mayor Joshua Schlicher said the city's old website was created in-house but the new website was built by Revize, a company who specializes in websites for governmental entities.
"Well our old site was just inadequate ... it needed refreshed," Schlicher said.
Steinel agreed with Schlicher saying "I designed the old website about 10 years ago and it was time for a change." The new website cost approximately $5,000 and the city got the best deal it could, according to Schlicher.
Steinel said the city started the process of creating the new website late last year Schlicher said even though the new website has launched there will still be ongoing updates performed. Steinel added that each department can make changes to their section of the website, which "I think is great." According to Schlicher, the website will be refreshed annually and pages will be updated so they don't remain static. He said the city wants the website to be interactive. Marietta plans on adding things like paying for parking passes to the website. People can already pay utilities and parking tickets on the website.
"All that's going to be coming soon," Schlicher said.
The city wants to get the website set up to where the public does city business on the website and Schlicher said he hopes the website will be ready to do so by the middle of the year. According to Steinel the website will make things easier.
"It should be much easier to find what you're looking for," Steinel said.
He said that right now there are forms that people can fill out and submit on the website but there is no way to make the payments associated with the forms online yet, but that should probably be coming to the website in the next few months.
"I think it turned out well ... the employees like it," Steinel said about the new website.
This is not the first time the city has put up a new website. In 2016 Marietta's website was redesigned to be more easily accessible for devices and to have a more readable font.
A multi-day weather report, access to police media releases, a city calendar with meetings, information about events and past and current agendas and quick links to the Marietta Municipal court and the Marietta/Belpre Health Department were also added to the website in 2016.
