Spring Fling at the County Home: Church and facility team up to celebrate
Trending
The Washington County Home held its first Spring Fling Sunday with volunteer help from the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene.
The facility tries to offer a fun event for residents once a month, according to Activities and Marketing Director Diana Hall. While this dance, reminiscent of scholastic activities, was a first, they plan on having more like it, she said.
Hall also noted the home will be holding a Kentucky Derby-style event for residents in May. County Home staff members will be racing each other around the lawn, using pool noodles as horses.
Through their service projects, the Church of the Nazarene had volunteers assisting with the dance and helping the ladies there prepare with a "glamor hour."
Hall noted that most of the County Home's residents came to the Spring Fling.
"It's really nice," said Alice Shafer, a resident since November.
She said the event showed her that the staff members truly care about the residents.
Shafer noted that she wouldn't be going on the dance floor, but she was glad to see her friends dance.
