The 100 Women Who Care in the Mid Ohio Valley awarded over $7,400 to two different local charities during their quarterly meeting at 740 Social Thursday.
Representatives from EVE Inc. and Mov'n Dragons spoke about their organization's missions. EVE Inc. focuses on family and domestic violence prevention and provides shelter for victims of abuse. Mov'n Dragons promotes breast cancer awareness through rowing a dragon shaped boat in various local events.
Attendees voted to split $7,460 between the organizations. EVE Inc. received $5,535 and Mov'n Dragons received $1,925.
Teri Combs, Executive Director at EVE Inc., said that 116 individuals have stayed in their shelter since last year. 756 individuals were provided services without staying overnight. She said approximately 80% of people staying at the shelter are female, while 20% are male.
Rosemary Brown, Shelter and Program Director at EVE Inc., introduced two employees who were victims of abuse. They received services from the organization and now pay it forward to other victims. EVE Inc. will use the money to bolster the support for their youth-focused trauma programs.Janet Chase of MOV'n Dragons shared the mission of the non-profit organization, which aims to support those impacted by breast cancer and their support systems. The group is well-known in the area for rowing down the river in a dragon boat, but also focuses on other areas. The organization encourages healthy living and lifestyles through exercise, nutrition, education and fellowship. Chase said that the donations will be used to award support of classes for exercise to local breast cancer patients.
