Art in the alley: bringing a neighborhood together
Trending
The neighborhood consisting of the blocks from Eighth to Ninth Street and Washington Street and Warren Street in Marietta held an Art in the Alley event over the weekend to "empower the young people of our community in these tough times in this tough planet" and connect the neighborhood, according to Roger Kalter, one of the organizers of the event.
This event was a collaboration of the neighborhood, Washington County Public Library, Reimagine Appalachia and Blue Rock Station.
According to Kalter, this is only one of the many steps this neighborhood has taken, and plans to take, to help rebuild the neighborhood. Kalter noted they have started neighborhood meetings and had potlucks to try and rebuild the connections between neighbors.
Kalter said they displayed art from Cincinnati, Columbus, St. Marys and all over Washington County.
After this weekend's event, the art will be displayed at the Marietta Makery on Front Street for an undetermined amount of time. After the artwork has been displayed at the Makery, it will be taken to the Washington County Public Library for people to pick up.
