Fort Frye Superintendent wins state award

A local superintendent was recently recognized for her work of advocating for mental health access for students in Appalachia.

Stephanie Starcher, superintendent for Fort Frye Local School District, was awarded the Advocate Award by the Appalachian Children's Coalition, a non profit organization that advocates for health related resources for children in the Appalachian Region of Ohio.

She attended the Annual Impact & Recognition Celebration in Columbus on May 8 to receive the award.

The press release about the awards said Starcher was recognized "for tirelessly championing mental health initiatives and giving voice to families facing access challenges."

Other honorees included former Ohio governors Ted Strickland and Bob Taft, who were presented the Founder's Award. The press release recognized both governors "for their leadership, dedication to ACC’s mission, and commitment to uplifting Appalachian children and families."

Nationwide Children's Hospital also received the Partnership Award "for an invaluable partnership advancing quality care and support for Appalachian Ohio children," the release said.

“These award recipients embody the passion, perseverance and collaborative spirit needed to create meaningful change,” said Randy Leite, ACC’s Executive Director. “We were honored to celebrate their remarkable impact.”
