Gen. Fearing Day slated

Gen. Benjamin Dana Fearing Day will be held beginning 11 a.m. May 18 at the Henry Fearing House Museum, 131 Gilman Ave.

Sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society, the Henry Fearing House Museum and the Civil War Round Table, the celebration will begin with the national anthem by a choir from Marietta and a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance led by Boy Scouts.

Activities are scheduled throughout the day.

Scott Britton of The Castle will speak on the war record of Gen. Benjamin Dana Fearing and offer insights into his contributions to American history.

The Civil War Round Table will lead a dedication ceremony for an historic marker and a new flag will be revealed.

The Henry Fearing House Museum will open to the public at noon. Donations to support the museum are appreciated.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs for an afternoon of socializing and activities including kids games, a strawberry shortcake fundraiser and an Uncle Sam and Columbiana.
