LOWELL — A landslip has led to the closure of one lane of State Route 60 near Lowell.

State Route 60 was closed completely between Marietta and Lowell on Tuesday “due to debris (trees, dirt, etc.) actively coming down from the hillside,” Ohio Department of Transportation Public Information Officer for ODOT District 10 Ashley Rittenhouse said in an email to The Times.

According to Rittenhouse, American Electric Power contractor Asplundh removed some trees Tuesday and ODOT put up temporary signals Tuesday.

She said one lane was opened around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“An ODOT crew is cleaning up dirt from the closed lane (Wednesday),” Rittenhouse said. “The other lane will be open later (Wednesday) or possibly (today), depending on how far they get.”

Rittenhouse said ODOT sees a lot of landslides in this part of the state due to the hilly terrain.

“When you add heavy rains, we end up seeing a lot of (landslips),” Rittenhouse said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
