From staff reports

BELPRE -- Team members have been raising money for the 2024 Relay for Life of Washington County since last fall, but those efforts will continue during Saturday's event.

In addition to the Sips Coffee, Rhododendron Ice Cream and Chick-fil-A food trucks that will be set up in Civitan Park for the event, some teams will have edible items for attendees to enjoy.

The Cancer Crush Team will be selling brats, Slawsa and hot dogs, while the Sorelle di Lotta team will have tacos in a bag and fruit and Marietta Memorial Hospital will offer watermelons. Folks can get popcorn and cookies from the Miller Family and Friends group, as well as purchase salsa and hot pepper relish.

Other teams will have raffles or prize drawings, like the Cancer Kickers' 50/50 or Kenadee Strong's drawing for a set of kids' outdoor games.

Also available will be hand-painted wine glasses from the Sorelle di Lotta team and stuffed bears and roses for the luminaries from Miller Family and Friends.

Members of Team Impossible plan to run a total of 45 miles around the track at Saturday's event and will be accepting donations per lap.

People can also purchase luminaries to honor those who have battled cancer, and there will be a live auction featuring themed baskets.

At 7:15 p.m., golf balls will be dropped from the Belpre Volunteer Fire Department's ladder truck near the park entrance. Spray chalk will be used to make a bull's-eye on the ground. The ball that gets the closest to the center will win the person holding its ticket $250, with $150 for the next closest and $75 for the third. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the event.

Money raised at the Relay benefits the American Cancer Society to provide research grants, patient services and other means of supporting its mission of working to find cures for all types of cancer.
