Marietta Chapter's Revolutionary War Patriots of the Northwest Territory Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Mound Cemetery, Fifth and Scammel streets, Marietta,

Marietta Chapter Historian Scott Britton's Keynote Address will discuss Rufus Putnam and his cousin Israel Putnam's trip to Florida in 1773. There, Putnam surveyed and chartered lands along the Mississippi River, which the Crown was going to grant to veterans of the French and Indian War in lieu of payment for their service.

The memorial service, wreath presentations and musket salute will be followed by lunch at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, across from Mound Cemetery. After lunch, a tour of Mound Cemetery is available.

In case of inclement weather, the event will move inside of St. Paul's. Restrooms are also available in St. Paul's during the event.

All SAR Compatriots, their families, DAR, CAR, Boy Scouts, and the public are invited to attend this service.

This memorial service is Ohio Society SAR Color Guard activity. All participating Color Guardsmen will muster at 11 a.m. in Mound Cemetery for a musket safety check, review of manual-of-arms and firing commands by the Ohio Society Color Guard Commander.
