The Civil War Roundtable of the Mid-Ohio Valley (CWRT) will be hosting a brand new event this weekend in Marietta.

CWRT will host History in the Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Muskingum Park in Marietta, according to a media release.

“This is the first time for History in the Park,” CWRT President Nancy Arthur said.

She said CWRT is sponsoring the event “to show what area organizations have to offer in the way of history in our area.”

According to Arthur, History in the Park will be presented along with the annual Northwest Territory Ordinance dedication ceremony at the park.

She said Ohio 250 will be at the event to start building interest in the upcoming celebration of the U.S.’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

She also said there will be tours of First Congregational Church on Front Street, kids’ games related to history, color guard members and a presentation about a day in the life of a soldier.

Arthur said the CWRT is inviting history-related organizations to participate in the event. Those organizations do not have to be Civil War-focused. She said attending groups will put up displays to educate visitors about their services. She also said there will be food trucks beside the Putnam Street Bridge as part of the event.

“With people wanting to do day trips, this is a great way to get a taste of what is available,” Arthur said about the event.

She thinks History in the Park will be a good way to enjoy the day.

“Enjoy a summer day in the park beside the Muskingum River in Marietta, where the Northwest territory got its start,” she said.
