WATERFORD — The Waterford Community Fair is returning for its 65th year this week.

The fair runs Thursday through Sunday at the Waterford Community Fairgrounds,19219 State Route 339, Waterford, according to the event’s website.

The Fair was started in 1959 by Waterford Grange 231 as a community event next to Waterford High School, according to Community Fair Inc. Vice President Doug McCutcheon. Community Fair Inc. runs the fair, according to its website.

He said the event was passed on to the community.

“And then it just grew and grew and grew,” McCutcheon said.

Participants line up for a tractor pull during the 2022 Waterford Community Fair.

The fair is a place for people to gather and it is about families and children, he said.

“It’s kind of a big family reunion,” McCutcheon said.

Rides are provided by Calliope Productions and, according to McCutcheon, rides will be free Thursday night for children and adults.

Single ride tickets cost $3 and ride arm bands are $15-$20 depending on the day, according to the Waterford Community Fair book.

A parade will be held 6 p.m. Friday and will include fire trucks, the Waterford High School Marching Band and several other participants, McCutcheon said.

Parade marshals will be Churchtown residents and local business owners Dave Archer and Arlene Archer.

Contests will be held in fine arts, visual arts, culinary and home decor, among others, according to the fair book.

A tractor pull will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, a tractor speed pull at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, a hog sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, a consignment auction and gun raffle at 11 a.m. Saturday, among other events, according to the fair book. .

The Community Fair Inc. wants to give back to the community and let it know there are still good people out there and there are low-cost things to do in the area, McCutcheon said.

Admission prices have not been raised, even after COVID, he said.

A day pass is $5, a membership pass is $12 and children 12 and under are admitted free.

The Waterford Community Fair has a great atmosphere, according to McCutcheon.

“It’s a positive place to go,” he said. “It’s fun.”
