Grimm has been chosen as next Marietta At-Large Councilman
A new Marietta city councilman will be starting this week.
The Washington County Republican Party’s Central Committee held a vote Tuesday to choose a replacement for At-Large Councilwoman Cassidi Shoaf, who left her seat July 13 due to moving out of state.
Members of the Central Committee, who are from Marietta, were the only votes who could decide the replacement and there was only one candidate from which they could choose, Jon Grimm.
The vote was unanimous, according to Central Committee Chairman James Vuksic.
“He’s now on City Council,” Vuksic said of Grimm.
Vuksic said the party would turn in a form to the Board of Elections on Wednesday that would make their choice of Grimm “of the record.”
Grimm is a former Marietta city councilman, having served two terms on council from 2008 to 2011, according to him.
Grimm left council to run for mayor and lost, according to his old campaign Facebook page, and then he ran for council again in 2013 and lost.
He also ran for one of three open at-large council seats in 2023 as an independent but withdrew from the race. Shoaf and current At-Large Councilman Harley Noland and current At-Large Councilman Ben Rutherford won the council seats.
Grimm is an aftermarket business manager at Hi-Vac in Marietta, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Grimm told The Times last week that he wants to be on council because he has experience and he feels he can contribute.
He also said he plans to get up to speed on outstanding legislation and he is not going to come to council with an agenda.
According to Grimm he needs to hear both sides of a story before he casts a vote and he believes a fresh set of eyes may help the discussion about the city’s financial issues.
Grimm will serve out the rest of Shoaf’s term, Vuksic said, and will have to run again in 2025.
“I think he’s a good man,” Vuksic said of Grimm.
