The Marietta Police Department released the following reports Sept. 12:
Sept. 3
* Officers stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation. After making contact with Anthony James Curry, 35, the operator of the aforementioned vehicle, a K9 sniff test of the vehicle was ordered and resulted in a positive indication of narcotics. After a search of the vehicle, a large amount of suspected meth was located inside of the vehicle. Curry was arrested on a drug trafficking charge and transported to the Washington County Jail where he waits for his court appearance.
* Units responded to the area of the Marietta Memorial Hospital for an individual having a mental health crisis. The male was located and taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Sept. 4
* Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Pike Street that was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of travel. The officers made contact with America K. Brewer, 33, the operator of the aforementioned vehicle, who was accompanied by her juvenile child. After investigation it was learned Brewer was impaired. She refused to provide a testing sample, and, as a result, Brewer was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle impaired and child endangerment. Brewer was transported to the Washington County Jail.
* Officers were dispatched to 259 Butler St. in reference to a possession of drugs complaint. Officers made contact with the court officials and the suspect. The suspect appeared at her probation officer's office, failed a drug screen and then was found to have a baggie of suspected fentanyl on her person. The items were retrieved and entered into evidence. Additional charges may result once lab testing is complete.
* Officers were contacted by the Marietta Elementary School principal in reference to male student bringing a pocket knife to school and threatening students. Student was sent home, suspended, and criminal charges are pending through Washington County Juvenile Court.
Sept. 5
* Units responded to 227 Franklin St. in reference to a stolen motorcycle. The Suzuki 600GSX F was stolen sometime between the hours of 9 p.m. on Sept. 4 to 1 p.m. Sept. 5. The theft is under investigation.
* Officers were dispatched to 259 Butler St. in reference to a falsification complaint. Upon arrival, the officers spoke with Emily Eriin Maze, 40, who advised she forged her community service hours paperwork and submitted them to the court. As a result, Maze was arrested for falsification and transported to the Washington County Jail.
* Officers responded to Walmart in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, the officers met with the loss prevention agent and found that Diedra M. Wriston, 43, had stolen $88 in cosmetics from the store. She was issued a summons for theft and released.
* Officers responded to a report of a drunken disturbance near the intersection of Front and Putnam streets. Officers made contact with Karen Nicole Statkiewicz, 42, who was found to be highly intoxicated. Statkiewicz refused transportation from a family member who was on the scene. She also refused transportation home from officers. She was advised she was not allowed to walk home in her current condition, but ignored instructions. Statkiewicz attempted to walk away and was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct by intoxication, disorderly conduct, cease and desist and resisting arrest. She was taken to Washington County Jail.
Sept. 6
* Officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for the operator, Carolyn S. Valentine, 64, being under a habitual alcoholic suspension. The vehicle failed to comply with lawful order/signal of a peace officer and continued driving for approximately 0.85 miles before finally pulling over at her residence. While speaking with the officers, Valentine stated she did not want to stop because she wanted to get her vehicle home. Valentine was arrested for failure to comply and taken to Washington County Jail until her court date of Sept. 9.
Sept. 7
* Officers were provided with a container containing a small amount of suspected methamphetamine that was found on the grounds and turned over to a member of Sternwheeler Committee.
Sept. 8
* Officers responded to a Manchester Drive residence in reference to a welfare check. Upon checking, a 74-year-old female was found deceased of apparent natural causes.
Sept. 9
* Several units from the Marietta Police Department responded to the 600 Charles Street block in reference to a large fight. After investigation, there were several accounts of events that took place. Investigation is ongoing.
* Officers responded to 102 State St, in reference to a disturbance involving a male with a knife. After investigation, it was learned Joshua Fortney, 49, had believed he had intruders in the home, got a gun and fired multiple rounds inside the home. Multiple other individuals, including two juveniles, were present inside the home. Fortney then grabbed an ax and smashed out a window. There is no evidence that intruders were in the home. Fortney was arrested and charged with weapons under disability, improperly discharging a firearm into a dwelling and two counts of child endangerment. Fortney was transported to Washington County Jail.
* Officers were dispatched to 15 Acme St. in reference to a theft of three boxes of rifle ammunition that had occured at an earlier date. Officers collected CCTV and statements. The suspect was identified and a summons for theft has been completed.
