Pickin’ on Country, a local band will perform a free concert at the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
While the concert is free, attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating.
Pickin’ on Country is a five-piece band that can be found performing across southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia usually at bars, festivals, lodges and private parties. The group plays classic rock, bluegrass and upbeat country music. Pickin’ on Country isn’t tied down to one era and can be heard playing music from classic artists such as Hank Williams Sr. all the way up to modern artists of today.
The band has been together for 20 years. It is led by singer and rhythm guitarist Jim Shankland, accompanied by Wally Gould on drums and vocals, Dean Westfall on fiddle, vocalist and lead guitar player Aaron Porter, and Jim Warner on the bass.
This spring, the church added a labyrinth in their back garden that FPC says is used for live performances, a walking path and a space people may pray in. The performance by Pickin’ on Country is the final performance in the church’s Summer Labyrinth Series. The first program featured Josh Taylor in August where he performed several original compositions. The series will resume in the summer of 2025.
