Career Center names Students of the Month

The Washington County Career Center honors its January Students of the Month, Nevaeh Moten and True King.

Moten is a Warren senior enrolled in the Patient Health Care program, and she is the daughter of Doug and Melinda Moten of Belpre.

At the Career Center, Moten is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, national technical honor society, and holds the office of president for her technical program. She competed and placed eighth at the state level for SkillsUSA in the health knowledge bowl category. She has been on the principal list and honor roll. Academically, she has or will take college credit courses for American national government, English composition, general psychology, human anatomy and physiology I & II, introduction to nutrition, introduction to psychology, medical terminology, microbiology, and statistics. In the patient health care program, she is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for health science & technology, medical terminology, patient centered care, patient centered care & diagnostics, and principles of allied health medicine.

Moten has earned industry-recognized credentials and certifications for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Stop the Bleed, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Training, and the Ohio Department of Health – State Tested Nurse Assistant (STNA). Patient Health Care instructor, Heather Klintworth, nominated Moten for this honor and commented, “Nevaeh demonstrates strong leadership skills. She is very dependable, trustworthy, responsible, and honest. She always takes pride in her work, exhibits a great attitude as well as teamwork amongst her teachers and peers.”

Moten is a member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church where she volunteers with activities and services to support the community.

At Warren High School, she volunteered as a teacher’s assistant. She currently is employed at Wendy’s in Belpre. Upon graduation, she plans to attend the Washington State College of Ohio to become and registered nurse.

King is a Frontier senior enrolled in the Building Technology/Carpentry program, and he is the nephew of April King of Newport.

At the Career Center, King is a member of SkillsUSA and is consistently on the principal list or honor roll. He is taking course offerings and learning skills for carpentry & masonry technical skills, construction safety & crew leadership, construction technology – core & sustainable construction, and structural systems. In his technical program, he has or will earn industry-recognized credentials for carpenter’s international training fund (CITF) and the occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) 10-hour training. At Frontier High School, he is active in football, basketball and basketball. He is the quarterback and captain of the football team.

English instructor, Chris Swarr, nominated King for this honor and commented, “True is an engaged, intelligent, and respectful student. He deserves recognition for his strong work ethic and is an excellent role model for his peers.”

King plans to attend the Career Center – Adult Technical Training to obtain a certification in the chemical operator program to work in plant operation.
