Deadlines for ballot petitions, voting registration announced for general election

The deadline for petitions to get onto the Nov. 4 general election ballot in Washington County closes at 4 p.m. Aug. 6.

The last day to register to vote for the general election closes at 9 p.m. Oct. 6 for those who aren’t already registered.

Director of the Washington County Board of Elections Mandy Amos said the petitions are signatures collected by individuals running for elected office. Those petitions must be turned in by Aug. 6 in order to be looked over and approved to be on the ballot.

“If they want to run for those offices then they go to the elections office here in Washington County and turn in their collected signatures which are then reviewed by board members,” said Amos.

The petitions are for seats with various term years on the Washington County township trustees, board of educations in the county, and positions on village and city councils, according to Amos.

“All of the city officials’ petitions have already been turned in for Marietta and Belpre,” said Amos. “Those will be on the ballot in November.”

Voters can also expect to see a few levies on the general election ballot which will consist of Marietta Township, Washington County Public Libraries and senior services. These levies haven’t been finalized yet and also have until 4 p.m. Aug. 6 to submit.

Go to Washington County Board of Elections to find more information on the elected officials and when their term expires. Terms that expire on Dec. 31, 2025, are seats that require petitions before the deadline to be on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The Washington County Board of Elections is holding a regular public meeting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to discuss the petitions so far.
