ELIZABETH — A plane crash was reported Friday in a remote area of Wirt County, according to a release from the Elizabeth-Wirt Volunteer Fire Department on Monday.
The four-seat passenger airplane flying from Arkansas was found by members of the fire department around 6 p.m. Friday off Dotson Memorial Road and was smoking. There were 13 firefighters who arrived at the scene and discovered all four passengers were unharmed and denied treatment, according to the release.
Wirt County Sheriff’s Deputy Anthony “Mike” Joy said “it was a four-seater and all four passengers were unharmed.”
The Wirt County Emergency Squad, and the West Virginia State Police also responded to the scene.
Joy said that it’s incredible no one was hurt. “The pilot had reported the crash and said there was complete engine loss at about 5,000 feet in elevation,” Joy said.
Joy said that he released the scene around 3 a.m. Saturday and it was reported to the Federal Aviation Administration who have been investigating the scene since. There are no updates at the time since the crash is under further investigation.
