City of Belpre to purchase former business location

BELPRE — The city of Belpre is purchasing the location of a former business on Washington Boulevard to move some of the water department’s equipment and operations.

During Monday’s regular meeting, Belpre City Council unanimously approved the third reading of a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute a purchase agreement with Badger Lumber Co. Inc. of Parkersburg for its Belpre location.

Mayor Susan Abdella said the price for the property as listed in the resolution is $925,000. The city will be relocating some of its services to the site, she said.

Council also approved the second reading of an ordinance authorizing the Belpre Auditor to create a new account for the city water reclamation plant.

First readings were approved on motions for a supplemental appropriation, amending the sewer charge ordinance and authorizing the mayor to apply for grants through the Ohio Division of Natural Resources for park improvements. Additional readings will be held at future council meetings.

Jason Campbell and Patrolman Jesse Whittington for reaching 10 years of service with Belpre and Patrolman Olivia Alloway and Patrolman Warren Moyer for celebrating one year and completing their probationary period with the police department.

The Utility Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 and the Rules Committee will meet at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 20.

Washington County Commissioner Eddie Place attended Monday’s meeting in Belpre and announced the approval of a $500,000 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to help with city projects, including the Rockland Lift Station rebuilding project, according to Abdella.
