A stormy night… a girl, let’s call her Daisy, heard footsteps. She thinks they’re her own… It’s just her cat, but she’s hungry. She gets some food… She goes outside to calm down but she screams! Wouldn’t you too if you stubbed your toe on a rock?

Third Grade – 2nd – “The Cracked Doll” by Sophia Simpson, Salem-Liberty Elementary

Once, there was a girl who had a doll her mother had given to her. It had one eye and some cracks. She didn’t have much interest in it. At the end of the day, she had shut off all the lights and placed the old doll on her bed. [Screech.] The window had opened. They called 911. They said they had nothing to worry about as long as they shut and locked every window and door. The next morning the girl was gone, and the doll was on her bed. Her mom called 911, and they put missing posters up. But, on every poster there was a doll in the back that looked like the cracked doll. No matter how hard the mother tried to find the girl she was still not found. The next morning the mother was GONE, and the doll was nowhere to be seen. They put even more posters up because of the missing mother. They put the house in full lockdown, and boarded up every window, door, and openings. Yet again, on every poster there was a doll that looked like the cracked doll. The house burned down 2 days after they went missing with no explanation. Days, months, even years passed by, and they were never found. The tale about the cracked doll is still alive. Make sure you lock EVERY window and door. Be careful.

Third Grade – 3rd – “One Scary Night” by Noah Rutherford, Newport Elementary

Artwork - 2nd Place: “Three Lost Men” by Helen Rinard, St. Mary’s Catholic.

Once upon a time, there were three kids, Amy, Bob, and Steve, who were discovering a haunted forest. They walked down the haunted forest with their flashlight and started to look, but they couldn’t find anything. Then someone screamed! It sounded like Amy. They didn’t know if they were next, so they ran.

They were lucky because a scary clown jumped right where they were. And he started chasing after the boys. Then a vampire came out with Amy, and she was fast, so she ran past the vampire. Then, they found a tree to hide behind. So they ran behind it. The vampire and the scary clown looked for them, but they couldn’t find them, so they kept running through the forest. The kids ran the other way. They made it to their house. The scary clown and the vampire were there in the forest, and they watched them go into the house. And everyone was safe, but not for long, because a hairy monster saw them and they wanted to eat them.

The End.
