2 people transported after crash closes westbound U.S. 50

PARKERSBURG – The Wood County Sheriff’s Office was investigating an accident Wednesday involving a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday at the 4-mile mark on U.S. 50 west, just before the Marrtown exit.

First responders arrived on scene at 11:44 a.m. The crash involved a passenger vehicle that struck a commercial truck and trailer head-on.

Westbound U.S. 50 was closed, and motorists were told to expect significant delays for some time while emergency crews worked the scene. As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the roadway was still closed, according to the Wood County 911 Center.

The 911 Center reported two people were transported to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center.

No further information was available Wednesday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office was joined at the scene by Parkersburg Police and Fire departments, the Blennerhassett, Washington Bottom and Lubeck volunteer fire departments, and Camden Clark Ambulance Service.
