Votes cast for the Washington County Public Library renewal levy will not be counted due to a procedural error that prevents the levy from being on the ballot.
Washington County Board of Elections Director Mandy Amos said they discovered information missing from the tax levy when it went through the process of being added to the ballot.
“It was too late to take it off the ballot so even though it’s on the ballot for today, we won’t have any totals when the polling booths close,” said Amos.
She said the information will be added and the renewal levy will be put back on the ballot for the election in May.
The levy proposed the auditor will collect $506,000 annually at a rate not exceeding 1 mill for each $1 of taxable value, the same rate that is in effect now. This amounts to $435 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value for a period of five years.
Polls remain open until 7:30 p.m. Check MariettaTimes.com for results tonight and full stories Wednesday.
