Belpre City Council approves measures at Monday night meeting
BELPRE — Belpre City Council approved several measures during its regular meeting Monday evening.
Council approved the third reading of a resolution to allow the mayor to request that the Ohio Board of Building Standard certify the city for enforcement of the residential code to exercise enforcement authority and accept and approve plans and specification and make inspections.
Council also approved the second and third readings of a memorandum of understanding with the Washington County Commission’s Southeast Ohio Building Authority to conduct plumbing inspections.
Council approved the second and third readings of a resolution to allow the mayor to request that the Ohio Board of Building Standards certify the city for enforcement of the Ohio State Building Codes to exercise enforcement authority, accept and approve plans and specifications and to make inspections.
In other business, council approved second reading of a resolution supplementing Year 2025 appropriations, with the third reading scheduled for a future council meeting.
Council also approved the second and third readings of a resolution authorizing the mayor and safety service director to execute a labor agreement with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 AFL-CIO.
Council approved the second reading of an ordinance authorizing the addition of regulations regarding the placement and use of portable storage and shipping containers. The third reading is scheduled for a future council meeting.
In her report to council, Mayor Susan Abdella said the city has met with Washington County Emergency Management Agency to discuss the local use of the Everbridge notification system. “In order for it to be effective, we need our residents that wish to be notified to go to washcoalerts.com to register in order for us to be able to utilize the system for you to be notified. This is not mandatory. This will allow all county Emergency Agencies to utilize the system to call our citizens,” she said.
A couple of committee meetings have been scheduled. The Planning and Zoning Committee will meet at 6:15 p.m. Dec. 22 and the Finance Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19. The second meeting is dependent on new committee assignments to be made by the council president after the first of the year.
