The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a 911 call on Nov. 30 at 540 Main St., Apt. B, in Waterford Township, where a man was found with stab wounds to the chest and legs.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim and the suspect, identified as Brendan Jamal Whiteford, 31, were involved in an altercation before the victim retreated to a bedroom and locked the door. Deputies said Whiteford remained in the kitchen, retrieved a large knife, forced open the bedroom door and stabbed the victim multiple times. During the assault, Whiteford was allegedly heard saying, “I’ll kill you,” officials said.

Whiteford fled before deputies arrived but was later stopped during a traffic stop in the area, according to the report. Investigators said he refused to provide a statement and showed signs of a physical struggle, including having blood on his clothing.

Whiteford, of the same Main Street address, was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail. He is charged with attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Additional charges may be filed, the sheriff’s office said.

Whiteford appeared in Marietta Municipal Court and is being held on a $503,500 bond plus a personal recognizance bond.

The sheriff’s office stated it has no additional information available at this time.
