Blennerhassett Winter Lecture Series begins Sunday

PARKERSBURG — The Blennerhassett Historical Foundation Inc. will be kicking off its 2026 Winter Lecture Series on Sunday and running through March 1 at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History at 137 Juliana St. in Parkersburg.

The series features lectures delivered by regional experts. Each session starts at 2 p.m. and lasts approximately one hour, followed by a question-and-answer period. On Sundays, museum doors open at 11 a.m. and close at 5 p.m., giving visitors the opportunity to explore the exhibits before or after each lecture.

Admission for each lecture is $4 for adults and $2 for children ages 3-12. Tickets are available at the door; there are no advanced sales. Attendees will enjoy light refreshments after each presentation.

The Winter Lecture Series gives residents and visitors a valuable opportunity to explore local history, learn from knowledgeable speakers, and participate in engaging discussions. The Blennerhassett Historical Foundation encourages everyone with an interest in history and community to attend.

The schedule of lectures inclues:

¯Feb. 8: “After Eden: The Blennerhassetts on the Isle of Guernsey” presented by Adra Johnson

¯Feb. 15: “Lock The Doors, The Shantyboats are In Town” presented by Bill Reynolds

¯Feb. 22: “Lincoln: A History” presented by Carl Swick, West Virginia’s Abe Lincoln ¯

¯March 1: “Opening the Door West” presented by Ellen Shelbourn

In addition, on Feb. 8, an announcement will be made to the public with new information on the burial location of Harman Blennerhassett, formerly thought to be lost entirely. This lecture will also be followed by a dedication of historic Blennerhassett oil paintings that formerly hung in the Chancellor Hotel.
