Belpre City Council meets Monday to conduct ordinance, resolution readings

BELPRE — Belpre City Council met Monday where they announced several grants for updates to Civitan Park and to the city’s water infrastructure, as well as adopting two ordinances adopting appropriations and water rate adjustments.

Mayor Susan Abdella also announced that a couple grants had been awarded to the city including a $486,506 ODNR grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund for new lighting and an expanded walking path in Civitan Park, and a $20,000 Ohio EPA drinking water grant for the city water valves.

Abdella gave her report to council and mentioned various updates on projects around the city as well as the America 250 celebration, including an event to be held for the White Oak Memorial Tree on April 24.

A Memorial Day service will be held May 31 at Leavitt’s Funeral Home in Belpre where a flag raising will take place, as well as the annual Cedarville Cemetery Memorial Day service. Additionally, a community picnic will be held June 27 with the theme “Proud to be an American”.

Ordinance 1 (2026-2027), focused on adopting 2026 annual appropriations and Ordinance 2 (2026-2027) amended a section of the Belpre Code of Ordinances — Annual Adjustments of Rates. This ordinance was adopted as ordinance 2 for the 2026-2027 calendar year.

Second Ward Councilman Rick Seebaugh announced that 740 kids will be participating in this year’s Belpre Soccer Club activities and around 800 kids will participate in the flag football activities.

“The kids come from Belpre, Little Hocking, Marietta and Wood County,” said Seebaugh. “It’s springtime and I can see we’re already gearing up for another sports season here. If you like sports and you wanna support the kids locally, please do.”

Seebaugh also announced that there will be many activities coming up this Saturday just in time for the Easter season.

“We have the soccer club’s Easter egg hunt at noon on Saturday,” he said. “We also have breakfast with the Easter Bunny at the fire department and the Belpre Easter parade after the egg hunt. If you’re feeling festive, Saturday has a lot of events for you.”

Several committee meetings have been slated before the next Belpre City Council meeting including:

¯ A parks and recreation committee meeting will be held at 6 p.m. March 30.

¯ A streets, sidewalks and storm sewer committee meeting will be held at 6 p.m. April 13.

The next meeting of Belpre City Council is at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at Belpre City Hall in Council Chambers.
