Horse killed in crash with truck in Gallia County

RIO GRANDE — A horse pulling an Amish buggy was killed in an auto accident Friday night in Gallia County, the Gallipolis Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred on Ohio 325 near Wolf Road where the Amish buggy was traveling north and was being followed by an orange 2005 Dodge pickup truck, the patrol said. The buggy driver attempted to turn left onto Wolf Run Road at the same time the driver of the truck attempted to pass the buggy, the patrol said.
As the buggy began to turn, the truck struck the horse, the patrol said. The buggy was not
struck, the patrol said.
The horse was dead on the road when troopers arrived. No one was injured, the patrol said.
The accident, which remains under investigation, happened shortly after 9 p.m. and Ohio 325 was closed until 10:15 p.m., the patrol said.
Responding in addition to the patrol were the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, Rio Grande Police Department, Gallia County EMS and the Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Department.
