The Ohio 4-H Conference on March 21 welcomed over 1,000 volunteers and teens to Columbus as Ohio 4-H Week came to a close.
The conference equips participants with resources, information and skills to meet the changing needs of youth. Representatives of Washington County 4-H attended the conference.
Churchtown Busy Bunch 4-H Club was recognized with an Ohio 4-H Community Service Award. The club organized a community service project to support Hurricane Helene survivors in Asheville, N.C., forming a committee to set goals, plan fundraisers, collaborate with community groups and identify recipients.
Through dessert sales with the Beverly Legion, a quilt raffle with the Friendly Circle Quilt Club, noodle sales and an anonymous donation, the club raised $2,105.10. It also helped knot quilts for survivors identified by local churches.
Working with the Wilmington Response Team, it sponsored a North Carolina family of three adults and three children who lost their home and income, providing a meaningful Christmas with gifts. With remaining funds and additional quilt donations, the club plans to continue assisting disaster survivors.
