Washington County Prosecutor Coil named Common Pleas Court judge

Washington County Prosecutor Nicole Coil has been appointed as a common pleas court judge.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s office announced the appointment this morning.
Coil will assume office as a judge in the Washington County Court of Common Pleas General and Domestic Relations Division on May 26, succeeding Mark Kerenyi, who retired at the end of February. She will serve the remainder of the unfinished term and must run for election in November to retain the seat, according to the release from the governor’s office.
Coil began her law career in 1994 as a clerk for Kimpel, Hyland, Weinkam & Goodson LPA and became an associate attorney there in 1996. She joined Gustavson, Lewis & Jones Co. LPA as an associate attorney in 1998. In 2001, Coil launched her own private practice.
Coil joined the Washington County Prosecutor’s office in 2015 and became the prosecuting attorney in 2019.
In 1993, Coil graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor’s degree in history. She received her juris doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1996.
