The Northwest Territory Museum Society Executive Director Erin Augenstein was selected as a Fellow for the American Association of State and Local History’s 2026 History Leadership Institute Seminar, according to a release from NTMS.
The event will take place from June 1-12 with in-person and virtual mandatory sessions.
Augenstein was among 19 individuals from various historical sites, societies and museums selected for the seminar.
Since 1959, the HLI Seminar has provided an opportunity for history professionals to learn new skills and connect with other historians through a two-week program. There will be virtual sessions as well as a residential seminar held at the Minnesota Historical Society.
“I am honored to have been selected as an HLI Fellow among this group of accomplished public history practitioners,” said Augenstein, according to the release.
Fellows will attend the two-week seminar as well as the virtual meetings, which are held before and after the seminar.
The topics to be covered during the session will focus on building relationships with other historical organizations across the nation, addressing issues historical societies are facing, and how to adapt to changes in the history field.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to reflect on the important work happening in our community, especially in this year of the commemoration of America’s semiquincentennial,” said Augenstein.
Augenstein has been executive director of NTMS, which includes Campus Martius and the Ohio River Museum, since 2022.
