Two people were hospitalized after an early morning fire Sunday at a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to Marietta Fire Chief C.W. Durham.

Fire crews were dispatched around 4:53 a.m. to 218 Pennsylvania Ave., where they arrived to find smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters forced entry, quickly extinguished the fire and removed two occupants from the home, Durham said.

The individuals were transported to a Marietta Memorial Hospital for further care. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Marietta Fire Department and Marietta Police Department responded to the scene.
