The America 250-Washington County organizing group has announced the release of a second limited edition commemorative coin celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

Only 250 coins were produced in this second round, making them a collector’s item for residents, visitors and history enthusiasts, according to a release from the group.

Each coin features Marietta’s historic Start Westward Memorial, created by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor best known for Mount Rushmore. The reverse side displays the America 250-Ohio emblem commemorating the nation’s founding in 1776 and the upcoming anniversary this year, along with references to Washington County, which was established in 1788.

The coins were created as part of the America 250-Washington County initiative, a local effort preparing for the nationwide semiquincentennial celebration. The group is working to highlight Washington County’s role in early American history and the settlement of the Northwest Territory.

“We are pleased to offer this second coin with the iconic Start Westward Memorial,” said Teresa Judson, Washington County recorder and chair of the Washington County America 250 Committee. “This memorial commemorates the significance of the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, which provided this nation with a plan for the future, freedom and what it means to be an American. This is truly what the celebration of America 250 is all about.”

The coins are available for purchase at American Flags & Poles, 276 Front St., Marietta.

Coins are priced at $22 each, tax included, and will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.
