PARKERSBURG – A free public opening reception for two new exhibits will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Parkersburg Art Center.
The new exhibitions are: Visual Music, Sculptured Stories & the Post-Modern Funeral: Works by Linda Stonestreet, Bob Fisher and Kevin Allison; and Art Is Life/Life Is Art.
The Visual Music exhibit will remain on view through July 11 and Art Is Life through July 1.
Visual Music, Sculptured Stories & the Post-Modern Funeral brings together three artistic voices.
Fisher’s whimsical sculptures, crafted from recycled materials and found objects, blend humor, irony, and storytelling, according to a release from the Art Center. Allison, a lifelong West Virginia artist, combines multiple artistic styles to explore and celebrate Appalachian culture. Stonestreet’s abstract paintings draw inspiration from nature, reducing color and form to their emotional essence.

The Art Is Life/Life Is Art exhibit showcases work created by participants in the Parkersburg Art Center’s popular creative aging program for adults ages 55 and older. Led by Ginny Killian, the program brings older adults together to explore creativity, build connections and create unique works of art, the release said.
The program received support from the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Neighborhood Investment Program. Reception support was provided through the Ausenheimer Fund for Senior Arts through Artsbridge.
Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and a cash bar while exploring both exhibitions.
Admission is free to the galleries during Art Center regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday through the sponsorship of WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. However, donations to support future exhibitions and the Art Center’s general operations will be appreciated.
