“We grew up in different places across the country, and we would always come through here (Marietta),” said nephew Derek Coutant. “Some of my earliest memories were here in Marietta to see them.”
Coutant said the Holleys’ home was the meeting spot during holidays and family gatherings. Coutant and many other family members were from various places out west.
He said the couple lived on High Street in Marietta for “as long as he could remember.”
Many of the family members, who requested not to be identified for privacy reasons, shared their memories of Richard and Phyllis. They all talked about how well-traveled the couple are and how they made many, many friends along the way.
There were siblings, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many more present for the special occasion.

Coutant said this was the third celebration this week for the couple. The Holleys had another gathering with their friends at the local McDonald’s, where they meet for coffee each week.
“No matter where we were, they would always see us, because they were traveling so much,” said Coutant. “It was a couple times a year we would see them.”
Citing privacy, the couple didn’t comment on the record but shared many stories about their friends and family. Their joy could be seen plainly on their faces as they moved around the room greeting people and reconnecting with those they had grown to know over their 100 years of life.
