Marietta native Mark Kelso to perform memorial concert at First Presbyterian Church

MARIETTA – A Marietta native will return to the city later this month for a memorial concert honoring members of his family.
Pianist and composer Mark Kelso will perform at 4 p.m. June 28 at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta. The concert is part of the church’s summer music series and will be held in memory of his cousin, Carole Garrison, who passed May 26 at age 88.
The date also marks the 102nd anniversary of the birth of Kelso’s mother, Jeane Kelso, a longtime Marietta resident.
Kelso, a 1977 graduate of Marietta Senior High School, has recorded more than 30 solo and collaborative albums, according to information from the church. His recording career includes releases with Virgin/EMI, Muddy Angel Music, the Relaxation Company and Kripalu Productions.
According to a release provided by First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, Kelso has performed in Costa Rica, British Columbia and Europe, as well as in churches, schools and concert halls throughout North America. His performance history also includes appearances with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and at Madison Square Garden.
Kelso’s music has drawn praise from musicians and public figures including Dave Brubeck, Ben Kingsley, George Winston, Monsignor Robert Punke and Ram Dass, according to information from the church.
During performances, Kelso has presented selections from his musicals, piano solos from his albums and spontaneously composed songs for individual audience members, according to the church. Those original pieces are recorded and sent to audience members at their request.

Other upcoming performances in the summer music series include 3M Acoustic Trio on July 17 and Madeline Dunn on Aug. 21. 3M Acoustic Trio features three-part vocals and covers a variety of music. Dunn is a local singer and vocalist who covers pop, indie and folk tunes. These performances are at 7 p.m. in the church’s garden.
