Two of the big acts this year at the Mid-Ohio Valley Multi-Cultural Festival are from Kentucky and Canada, an organizer of the annual event said.
The 29th Multi-Cultural Festival opens Friday for a three-day run at Civitan Park in Belpre, a move made last year when construction on the new activities center at City Park in Parkersburg commenced. The facility is still under construction.
Not enough space was available to hold the event, organizer Bea Corra said.
“We had to move to Belpre,” she said.
The weather this year is also expected to be milder than the 2025 show, with lower temperatures.
“It was hotter than the dickens last year,” Corra said.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. Friday and kick off three days of live entertainment and numerous vendors and food trucks. The RLJQ Afro-Cuban Jazz quartet will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Two well-known acts will perform on Saturday, The Local Honeys, a Kentucky duo, and the Tartan Terrors, a Celtic rock band from Toronto, Canada.
The Tartan Terrors were formed in 1996 by Ian Irmisch, who plays the bodhran, a traditional Irish drum, and his late sister Ellen. The band performs rock and roll in a Celtic way.
Including Irmisch, other members of the band are Peter McArthur on the bagpipes, whistle and vocals, Emily Yarascavitch on fiddle, vocals and stepdancing, Charlie McKittrick on drums and vocals, Phill Hood on electric and acoustic guitars and vocals, Chris Kerba on bodhran, acoustic guitar and vocals and Jake Saenz on bass guitar and vocals.
The Local Honeys is the duo of Linda Jean Stokley on guitar and fiddle and Montana Hobbs on banjo performing bluegrass and regional traditional Kentucky music.
Admission and parking is free. Civitan Park is at 1500 Blennerhassett Ave. and the audience is encouraged to bring a blanket or a lawn chair.
