Frontier High School Alumni Association holds 14th annual class reunion

MARIETTA – The Frontier High School Alumni Association, representing the classes of 1969 to 1990, recently celebrated its 14th annual class reunion.

Both nights, June 12-13, were held at the American Legion in Marietta. The Friday night mixer evening featured a cash bar, light snacks, soda and water. DJ Rick Nicholson of Triple "R" Music Works provided the group with music from the 60's, 70's and 80's eras.

Saturday night, classmates arriving for check-in were given gifts upon arrival. Guests were greeted with a balloon arch in FHS colors upon entering and exiting the banquet hall. After social hour, the classmates went outside and posed for a group portrait with Mark Stewart of Stewart Photography. Several individual classes requested photos. Those who missed getting a copy at the reunion can still obtain one by calling Jeff Beaver, class of 1976, or emailing him at cbeaver@suddenlink.net.

Back inside, a buffet-style dinner catered by Quinet's of New Martinsville was enjoyed. Gale Mosser, class of 1977, gave the blessing before the meal. A decorated cougar-head cake, designed in FHS colors by Dawn Walls Gutberlet, class of 1988, along with two specialty cakes, was offered for dessert.

Door prizes won throughout the evening were donated by area merchants and alumni. The band, 4th Link, consisting of Josh Davis, class of 2003; Phil Petty, class of 1983; Brian Foutty, class of 1989; Jesse Eddy, class of 1997; and Jimmy Roux, provided musical entertainment.

A memorial table was decorated and dedicated to the classmates from 1969 to 1990 who are no longer with us. Adorning the table was a floral arrangement created by Oopsa Daisy of Newport, and a single candle was lit in their memory.

A live auction was held with Jeff Beaver, president and class of 1976, serving as the auctioneer. In the auction this year, there were several items crafted by fellow alumni. Starting the auction, there were specialty pies made by Gutberlet and two quilts hand-stitched by Teri Carr Leister, class of 1976. Both quilts were won by Christine and Mike West, class of 1972. A metal flag featuring an eagle engraved inside was donated by Deborah Newlen Wheeler, class of 1982, and Marvin Mosser, class of 1980, and won by Madeline Brown West, class of 1972. A stained glass eagle was donated by Christine Christian West, class of 1972, and won by Mike West. Christine Christian West also donated a crocheted baby doll and doily. The baby was won by Kathy Satterfield Tustin, class of 1976, and the doily was won by Carolyn Resovsky Buddie, class of 1972. A crocheted lapghan donated by Sue Davidson Turner, class of 1972, was won by April Strahler Dearth, class of 1993. Two handcrafted pendulum-style clocks were donated by Sam Howard, class of 1978. One of the clocks was won in the auction by Robbie Rosco Rouse, class of 1976, and the other was raffled and won by Jody Gale Hewitt and Rick, class of 1969. Ferrin Thomas, class of 1986, was the winner of a new grill donated by Ronald Smithberger, class of 1975.

Throughout the weekend, alumni enjoyed browsing through yearbooks, scrapbooks and picture albums. A special display of easels, created by Tustin was dedicated to the classmates of 1976 in honor of their 50‑year milestone. Thirty‑four members of their class attended.

Beaver spoke about some of the events occurring throughout the year. In the fall of 2025, many of the alumni manned the concession stand at the Frontier High School homecoming football game. Parents who normally work concessions were able to watch the festivities while the alumni worked. Alumni have already committed to working the 2026 homecoming football game. Beaver said a lot of hard work goes into events for which the alumni volunteer, but memories and a good time are had by all. In April, the group served food at the first gun bash organized by the Frontier Athletic Boosters. In May, at Frontier High School, Beaver presented graduating seniors Aaden Bills and Hunter Taylor with $1,000 scholarships. The alumni association awards two $1,000 scholarships each year. Seniors that would like to apply for consideration are advised to see Holly Loughry Cunningham, class of 1990, in the guidance department at FHS.
