CARROLLTON -- Waterford FFA members Elijah Rexroad and Derrick Wheeler recently attended FFA Camp Muskingum, where they participated in agriculture education programs, leadership activities and outdoor recreation, according to a release from the organization.
During the camp, Rexroad and Wheeler took part in educational sessions while also participating in kayaking, shooting sports and fishing, the release said.
FFA Camp Muskingum, in Carroll County along Leesville Lake, is described by the Ohio FFA Camp website as a leadership and outdoor education facility offering students opportunities for personal development, teamwork and conservation education.
Programming at the camp focuses on conservation education, personal development and leadership training. According to the website, campers participate in activities intended to strengthen communication, leadership and teamwork skills, including low- and high-ropes activities.
According to the site, FFA Camp Muskingum can accommodate up to 320 campers and includes four dormitories, a visitors' lodge, an Adventure Center, Discovery Center, Conference Center, indoor and outdoor pavilion, dining hall and assembly hall. The camp also offers a variety of recreational activities, including hiking, tennis, basketball, volleyball, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Other activities include ping pong, cornhole, human foosball and other group games.
The camp is also home to “Nature's Classroom,” a residential outdoor education program that began there in 1988. According to the camp's website, the program serves elementary and middle schools and other groups through hands-on activities intended to build confidence, communication skills, teamwork and appreciation for the natural environment.
Waterford FFA said Rexroad and Wheeler's time at the camp provided an opportunity to participate in agricultural education while developing leadership skills and building relationships with other students.
