The YMCA of Parkersburg has announced its 2027 Heart of Our Community Award recipient.
Jan Dils, an attorney, will be honored at the upcoming Heart of Our Community Dinner on March 3 at the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center, 1500 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna.
The award honors an individual whose leadership, service, and generosity have left a lasting impact on the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Dils proceeds from the event benefit YMCA programs that promote youth development, social responsibility and healthy living in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
"It is a distinct honor to be recognized as the 2027 Heart of Our Community recipient," Dils said. "Having been born and raised in this area, I am passionate about giving back to a community that has given me everything. I am blessed to have family, friends and a business that supports me and has a heart for giving back to the community, as I do."
Born and raised in Parkersburg, Dils has a lifelong connection to the YMCA.
As a young child she would walk to the YMCA to participate in youth activities. It was there that she first participated in organized sports and developed her love of basketball. She also participated in swimming and gymnastics. Today, she continues to view the YMCA as a trusted community resource and enjoys playing pickleball at the YMCA.
Past recipients of the award include Charlie Burd, Kiki Angelos and Becky Deem McGinnis.
Dils is the founder of Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, which she established in Parkersburg in 1994.
The firm now has more than 160 team members serving clients nationwide and offices throughout West Virginia and in Charlotte, N.C.
For more than 30 years, the firm has focused on personal injury, social security disability benefits, and veterans’ benefits, advocating for individuals who often find themselves navigating corporations, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and government bureaucracy.
Dils’ service in the community includes the Boys & Girls Club and the Board of Trustees of Marietta College. She is a graduate of Marietta College and West Virginia University.
Dils, her husband Chuck Hughes and sons Hayden and Spencer reside in Vienna.
