Local schools welcome new principals for upcoming school year

By Sophie Wheeler 2 min read

As the new school year approaches, several local schools welcome new principals: Cindy Oxender (Emerson Elementary), Jeff Hardman (Lubeck Elementary), Brandon Lack (assistant principal at Marietta High School), Jordan Moore (Belpre Elementary), and Tim Flemming (Waterford High School).

Oxender has been working as a teacher since 2011 and received national certification as a grant-writer and grants administrator in 2004.

"I am thrilled and honored to step into the role of head principal at Emerson Elementary School, home of the Eagles!” she said. “Our staff, community, and business partners have given us a wonderfully warm welcome as we prepare for the new year. We have had some incredible support as we “gear up” for the new year.”

Hardman said he has been working in education for the past 28 years with ten years as an administrator. Hardman, previously the principal at Lubeck Elementary from 2017-20, is returning after six years.

"Returning to Lubeck as principal truly feels like coming home. … My commitment is to foster open, honest, and respectful communication with every family, creating a relationship built on trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to every child’s success," said Hardman.

Lack, originally from Tennessee, served students with moderate to profound special needs and provided emotional/behavior support, he said. Lack moved to Vienna in 2023 where he worked as a certified autism teacher for Wood County Schools.

"I was honored to be chosen as an assistant principal at Marietta High School,” Lack said. “I hope to provide a steady and consistent presence at MHS and help with showcasing Marietta City Schools as the premier district in this area.”

Moore and Flemming were not immediately available for a comment.
