MOV Ballet, Academy of Fine arts slate open house

PARKERSBURG - The Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet Company and the Academy of Fine Arts will hold an open house and class registration day from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at its studios at 1311 Ann St.

The 2026-27 season will include the annual holiday tradition "The Nutcracker Ballet" and a new, original ballet based on the famous story of "Peter Pan in the Spring."

The Academy of Fine Arts will have information for new students to register for dance classes, stock up on dance supplies and enjoy refreshments.

For more than 74 years the Ballet Company has offered instruction in classical ballet, creative ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and modern and specialized creative dance for children ages 3-5. The Academy offers classes on beginner, intermediate and advanced and professional levels from age 3 to adult.

Academy alumni have been offered over $1.25 million in scholarships to dance companies, colleges and universities around the country and abroad based on their dance talent and academic achievements. They have appeared on Broadway in shows including the revival of "Grease," "Moon over Buffalo," Barry Manilow’s "Copacabana" and "Bally’s Jubliee" in Las Vegas, on television in commercials and in the series "Law and Order" and voice overs for products including Yoplait.

Alumni also have danced with Pittsburgh Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Cleveland Ballet, the State Ballet of Missouri, American Repertory Ballet, Hubbard Street Dancers and Richmond Ballet and at theme parks including King’s Island and Disney World.
