The Castle to continue series with Victorian housewarming

MARIETTA -- The Castle will host an evening of Victorian hospitality, marking the 1888 arrival of one of Marietta’s most prominent families with the sights, sounds and traditions of a Victorian housewarming.

Part of the Castle’s free Third Thursday series, the event is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Aug. 20 and will celebrate the Davis family settling into the Castle in 1888.

Throughout the evening, light refreshments, lawn games, live music and hands-on activities for all ages will be available. The Front Street Quartet will provide live music to set the tone for the summer housewarming. Guests can also create their own Victorian-style calling card--a social necessity of the late nineteenth century--and learn how these personalized cards were used to make introductions, pay social calls and build relationships.

The evening includes:

• Hands-on craft: Make your own Victorian calling card

• Victorian lawn games

• Refreshments: Complimentary lemonade and cookies

• Live music by the Front Street Quartet

• 6:45-7:15 p.m. Welcome to the House Tour

• 7-7:30 p.m. Welcome to the House Tour (Family Tour)

• 7:15-7:25 p.m. 10-Minute History Trivia Challenge (At Band Intermission)

• 7:30-8 p.m. Making a Summertime Steamed Pudding Cooking Class
