Republicans to hold scramble at Oxbow
The Washington County Republican Party will hold its sixth annual golf scramble on Oct. 10 at Oxbow Golf Course.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
The fee for the four-person scramble is $300 and the package includes greens fee, cart, refreshments, snacks and a steak dinner.

One man killed in Athens County accident
ATHENS - One person was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon in Athens County, according to the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A 2005 Harley-Davidson driven by Thomas W. Burson, 45, The Plains, south on South Plains Road went off the right side of the road striking a curb and a sign, the post said. The accident happened around 1:30 p.m.
Burson was taken to Fairfield Medical Center, then to the Adena Regional Medical Center for further evaluation, the post said. He died at the hospital as a result of the injuries, the post said.
Athens County EMS and The Plains Fire Department also responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation, the post said.
Free book study at First Presbyterian
First Presbyterian Church of Marietta will hold a free book study on Joann Nesser's "Contemplative Prayer: Praying when the Well Runs Dry” from 5-7 p.m. for four consecutive Thursdays from Oct. 22 to Nov. 12 in the church's fellowship hall. English Professor Nicole Livengood will guide the discussions. The book will be provided at no cost and a light meal will be served at the beginning of the class. Transportation needs to be discussed at public meeting
A public meeting focusing on the transportation needs in West Virginia for older adults, individuals with disabilities and the public will be held from 3-4 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council, 709 Market St., Parkersburg.
The meeting, one of 11 around the state to update the transportation plan, covers the Region 5 counties of Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt and Wood.
Consultants to the West Virginia Division of Multimodal-Facilities-Transit Section are updating the coordinated human services transportation plans in the state's 11 planning and development regions.
Public, private and non-profit transportation providers, human service agencies, and individuals familiar with transportation needs in their communities should attend. Agencies that receive or intend to apply for funding from the Federal Transit Administration Section 5310 Program must participate in coordination planning.
