MARIETTA - The inaugural Country For A Cure concert and fundraiser benefiting the Ohio Pink Ribbon fund, hosted by OnPoint Event Services, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Gator’s Pub in Marietta.
"Country for A Cure was created to bring people together through country music while raising money and awareness for this important cause," said Tom Smith, owner and event coordinator of OnPoint.
The Ohio Pink Ribbon Fund is an organization that provides financial assistance to women, men and families affected by breast cancer, and serves 10 counties in southeastern Ohio, plus Wood County in West Virginia. The fund assists with everyday expenses such as groceries, rent, gas cards and other basic needs.
"For someone already dealing with the physical and emotional challenges of cancer, having help with these expenses can make an incredible difference," Smith said.
According to Smith, the event will feature many notable music artists including Mikele Buck, who was featured on season 15 of "The Voice," plus Brent Lowery, Taylor Sams and others.
Smith said "just to see the support that we’ve had from the community is just overwhelming, in the most positive way."
Smith said he will also present the OnPoint: Heart of the Community award during the evening, as a way to recognize those within the community who "have stepped up and went above and beyond in trying to help their local community."
He said next year the event will be rebranded as "Country for a Cause" to better reflect the mission of the event, with the goal to support the Ohio Pink Ribbon Fund rather than cancer research.
"It’s going to families and people right here in our local community, you know, to help them get through one of (the) toughest battles you know they may ever face," Smith said.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Gator’s Pub and First City Records for $15 or $20 at the door.
Attendees must have a valid photo ID to enter.
