Energy exhibition returns to Marietta College

MARIETTA -- Marietta College's annual Energy Technical Exhibition will return Friday, Sept. 25, offering students a chance to explore energy industry careers, meet potential employers and see equipment demonstrations.
The student-led exhibition is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Organized by the college's petroleum engineering students, it will bring together industry professionals, educators and students, according to a news release from the college.
High school students from the region also are expected to attend, giving them an opportunity to learn about the industry and connect with Marietta faculty.
Formerly known as the Earth, Energy, and Environment Student Conference, the exhibition features company booths and demonstrations of equipment used in the energy industry.
Bob Chase, professor emeritus and chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Geology, said participating companies offer career opportunities for students with different levels of education.
"Those represented at the Exhibition typically hire individuals for a wide variety of occupations ranging from diesel mechanics to laboratory technicians to engineers. Students are encouraged to visit booths set up by the companies and submit their resumes for positions appropriate to their level of education," Chase said.
For the college students organizing the exhibition, the planning process also provides experience in leadership, communication and coordinating a professional event, the release said.
Hunter Wick, a third-year petroleum engineering major, has attended the exhibition since his freshman year and has been planning this year's event since March.
"I cannot wait to see what kind of good it does for the petroleum engineering space at Marietta College and the surrounding area," Wick said.
Benjamin Petrie, a petroleum engineering major who helped plan the exhibition and coordinate catering, said the work connects classroom opportunities with professional experience.
"Helping with this event gives me face time with future employers and other industry professionals," Petrie said.
