NEWPORT - The Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) announced the approval of low interest loans for two projects in Newport (Washington County) and McArthur (Vinton County) on Tuesday to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure and make water quality improvements for Ohioans.
The Ohio Water Development Authority was created by the Ohio General Assembly in 1968 as a public agency to provide funding to public water and wastewater construction projects throughout Ohio.
Most awards come from their three main programs; The Fresh Water Loan Program, the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund and the Drinking Water Assistance Fund, with Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) serving as the administrative manager selecting the projects to award.
The Fresh Water Loan Program, created in 1992, provides for improvements and to replace aging infrastructure through market-rate and community assistance loans to local governments for planning, design, and construction of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.
The following projects for Ohio communities received OWDA Board approval for funding through the Fresh Water Loan Fund Program for improvements and to replace aging infrastructure:
The Village of McArthur in Vinton County was approved to receive a loan for $95,400 at 4.36% for five years for the design of 10,200 feet of waterline along the South High and Market Streets to replace aging water lines.
The Newport Water & Sewer District in Washington County is approved to receive a loan for $133,164 at 4.36% for five years for the design of 4,100 feet of sanitary sewer and one lift station to provide service to 30 households currently served by onsite treatment systems.
A representative of the Newport Water & Sewer District was not immediately available for a comment.
