MARIETTA - Five residents had the chance to dress up and take a turn on the runway during a fashion show organized to offer a change from their regular activities.
Diana Hall, activities and marketing director, said she developed the idea while looking for something different for residents to enjoy.
"I just try to think of different things for the residents, just things they can enjoy," Hall said.
Hall said she wanted to provide an alternative to familiar activities such as bingo, giving residents an opportunity to showcase outfits and prepare for an appearance in front of others.
The models were Darlene Weimer, Nina Heiss, Sandra Farnsworth, Jean Kettering and Robert Leopold.
Clothing featured in the show included fall fashions, animal prints, Christmas attire, formal wear and Halloween costumes. The collections included casual and dressier looks, with accessories such as scarves, hats, purses and boots.
The residents appeared in successive collections, changing outfits between turns on the runway. On the runway, each model posed and danced and laughed, supported by applause from fellow residents and staff.
"I just thought this would be a fun way to have them showcase different outfits and dress up, then get their hair done," Hall said.
For Weimer, the show offered a chance to revisit an experience from her younger years. She said she and a friend had taken a class and modeled for Sears for about a month.
“I think that’s why they shut down,” Weimer joked, but added that she was excited for the show.
Hall said Weimer would turn 90 the following month and had been preparing for the fashion show.
"She's been practicing her stances and her poses," Hall said.
