By Staff Reports 2 min read

MARIETTA -- An emergency water main repair prompted a boil advisory affecting approximately 356 water customers in Marietta, according to a notice from the city.

The advisory covers Lancaster Street from Gates Avenue to Clark Street, along with Wyoming Road, Edgewood Drive, Laramie Road, Cheyenne Road, Kingman Road, Pershing Road and Doris Avenue.

Customers in those areas, as well as adjacent areas that may have experienced a loss of water service or pressure, are advised to bring water used for drinking or food preparation to a rapid boil for two minutes after service is restored, according to the notice.

The advisory will remain in effect until its cancellation is announced through the city's website, Facebook page and the Washington County Emergency Alert System.

Crews are completing repairs and flushing affected locations to restore service. Bacteriological testing will be conducted according to Ohio Environmental Protection Agency requirements.

The advisory will be canceled after required samples test negative for total coliform bacteria. If samples test positive, customers will be notified and the advisory extended.

Customers should flush their service lines using only cold water until it runs clear. Brown water from mineral deposits or cloudy water caused by air can occur after a service interruption, according to the notice. The notice also urges customers to use caution when handling boiling water and allow it to cool to a safe temperature before transferring it to storage containers.
