Grimes has bond hearing in Marietta

MARIETTA – A bond hearing for Baxter Grimes was initially moved from Marietta Municipal Court to the Washington County Common Pleas Court.

Grimes was initially arrested as a suspect in a home invasion in which two elderly residents were shot.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, stabilized, and then transferred to a hospital in Columbus. One victim later died from the gunshot wounds.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department searched for Grimes who had been identified as a suspect and he was taken into custody Sunday.

The bond hearing started at 3 p.m. in the court of Judge John Halliday. Messages were left as court personnel said the hearing was still going on as of 4:30 p.m. when the court offices stop answering the phone. The messages were not returned.

Grimes was arrested on charges of Felony 1 Aggravated Murder; Felony 1 Attempted Murder; Felony 1 Aggravated Burglary; two counts of Felony 2 Felonious Assault; Felony 2 Theft of a Firearm; four counts of Felony 3 Tampering with Evidence; and Felony 5 Burglary.
