‘Pound for Pink’ to support local women facing cancer

MARIETTA - Rockstar Wellness will host "Pound for Pink, Rock for a Cure" from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, to raise money for local women facing cancer.

The event will benefit the Jessica Huffman Women's Cancer Fund at the Marietta Community Foundation, bringing together craft vendors, refreshments and a fitness workout accompanied by a live drummer.

Activities will begin at noon, with vendors selling local craft items and Jeremiah's Coffee House offering coffee and refreshers for purchase. The event will conclude with a POUND Rockout Workout.

The workout combines cardio, Pilates and strength training with simulated drumming set to music, according to a release from Rockstar Wellness. A live drummer will accompany participants during the session.

"This event promises to be like no other, with the POUND Rockout workout with the live drummer," said Rachel Burnham, founder and co-owner of Rockstar Wellness. "The Pound Rockout Workout is for all fitness levels and provides a high energy fitness experience that rocks through music and movement."

The Jessica Huffman Women's Cancer Fund supports local women facing cancer by helping with needs insurance does not cover, according to the release. Its purpose also includes helping women feel more like themselves while undergoing treatment.

Huffman, a cancer survivor, recognized gaps in the system and areas where patients needed additional care and support. The fund is intended to help women in the community receiving treatment at WVU Medicine or the Cancer Center at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Participants can register in advance by calling Rockstar Wellness at 740-885-2050 or visiting www.rockstarwellnessllc.com and selecting "Schedule." Advance registration is not required, and organizers are also seeking event sponsors.

Rockstar Wellness is a family fitness facility that aims to build a supportive, inclusive community through exercise, according to the release. Its stated goals include helping participants build confidence, develop friendships and feel comfortable at different stages of their fitness journeys.
