Women’s Giving Circle closes 10th anniversary with $16K in grants

MARIETTA - Three nonprofit groups in Washington County have shared $16,000 in grants from the Women's Giving Circle on the recent observance of its 10th anniversary.
The circle at its fall meeting on Oct. 13 welcomed the nonprofit Washington County Special Olympics, Community Hospice Foundation and Washington County Harvest of Hope.
The grants were $8,000 to the Washington County Special Olympics, $5,000 to the Community Hospice Foundation and $3,000 to Washington County Harvest of Hope.
Funding for Special Olympics will be used for travel and related expenses, giving athletes greater opportunity to compete, represent Washington County and experience the pride and camaraderie of being part of a team, according to a release from the Marietta Community Foundation.
The Hospice Foundation provides a place for comfort, compassionate care and support when individuals and families need it most, the release said. The grant will support the Hospice House and caring for patients and their loved ones during life's most challenging moments.
Harvest of Hope addresses food insecurity in the community. The grant will strengthen Harvest of Hope's capacity to serve individuals and families, including needs such as additional freezer space to better store food and support its ongoing work, the release said.
The Women's Giving Circle is part of the Marietta Community Foundation.
"When I think back to the beginning, I remember a small group of ladies sitting around our conference table, wanting to find a way to make a difference in our community," said Heather Allender, president and CEO of the Community Foundation, said. "To see what that little group has grown into over the last 10 years is just incredible. These women have built friendships, come together around causes they care about and made a real difference for so many people in Washington County. I love getting to see it grow, and I'm just so proud of what they've created together."
